Vegan Probiotic 8 FAQ

What are probiotics?

Probiotics are live microorganisms (eg., bacteria) that are either the same as or similar to microorganisms found naturally in the human body and may be beneficial to health. Also referred to as ‘good bacteria’ or ‘helpful bacteria’, these microorganisms are especially complex and diverse in the lower gastrointestinal tract and help the body function properly.

How are probiotics measured?

Probiotics are measured in colony forming units (CFU). CFU’s are generally measured in the millions or billions per serving.

Why enteric coated?

Vegan Probiotic 8’s capsules are enteric coated to ensure they bypass the harsh acidic conditions of the stomach. This way the probiotics deliver their microflora directly to the intestine where it’s most beneficial.

Why is FOS added?

FOS is included in this product to assist healthy growth of acidophilus and bifidus organisms.

How do I store probiotics? Typically the probiotics (bacteria, fungi, etc.) are freeze-dried to stabilize them in an inert state. Besides refrigeration, this protection can be achieved by packaging in a glass and adding freshness packets. Temperature and moisture play a large role in stability of probiotics.

How to prolong potency?

Probiotic CFU’s typically drop 5% per month when packed in glass and non-refigerated. Refrigeration helps prolong the potency and viability of most probiotics.

To meet label claims of CFU’s, Bright Nutrition Inc. adds an overage to allow for the natural decline in numbers over time.

High temperature and moisture levels increase a probiotics CFU rate of decline. Because of the extreme variability of seasonal weather and environmental conditions that a product may experience, and the duration of these exposures, it’s not possible to precisely predict potency and shelf life accurately for every person’s situation across a wide geographical are.

Should I refrigerate my probiotics?

Refrigeration is ideal for storing probiotics. If this isn’t possible, keep them in a cool, dry place to maintain stability.
